Name: Shreya Barua

Role: Marketing Intern

School: New York University

Graduation date: Spring 2027

Major: Marketing & Psychology

What Interests or Experiences Led You to Interning at FGI This Summer?

Since the start of college, I knew I always wanted to study marketing. With this interest I gained experience with various areas of marketing through school clubs, external projects, and supporting startups. However, I never knew what marketing looked like through an established firm. When I came across FGI’s posting on Handshake, the role description stood out to me because my past experiences aligned with it perfectly, but I also knew I would get exposure to a whole new field. I was very excited to gain hands-on experience and expand my marketing experience into the commercial finance industry.

Which Project at FGI Has Been Most Rewarding for You and Why?

As the Marketing Intern, I have gotten the opportunity to design PowerPoint presentations, create data sheets, and much more. The most rewarding project I have done though has to be planning and presenting a campaign for FGI. I was asked to conduct market research and come up with a plan on how to effectively and successfully market a campaign. This was the most rewarding project because I got full freedom to create a plan and implement new ideas by myself. Presenting the plan to the marketing team was very fulfilling and it was great to hear feedback to help me grow.

As Your Internship Ends, What Lessons and Experiences from FGI Will Stay with You?

I am so grateful for the time I have had here at FGI. Getting the opportunity to be part of the marketing team has been an amazing experience and taught me so many lessons. I have learned how to effectively collaborate with others, create designs from scratch, and overall learned the best ways to market services and products in a commercial finance industry. I will carry the technical and design skills I have learned and strengthened here at FGI. But, most importantly, I will carry the skill of how to be a team member. FGI allowed me to have one-on-one mentorship from not only intelligent people but supportive and understanding people and I hope to carry those traits with me.

Name: The Anh Nguyen

Role: Credit Underwriting Intern

School: Fordham University

Graduation date: Spring 2026

Major: Finance

What Interests or Experiences Led You to Interning at FGI This Summer?

I have always been interested in lending and capital markets, but when I came across FGI’s internship on Handshake, the term “asset-based lending” stood out to me. It was a field I hadn’t explored before, but after researching it, I found it both unique and compelling. I was excited by the opportunity to learn how lending decisions are made based on collateral and operational performance, and I made it a goal to join FGI and gain hands-on experience in this specialized area of finance.

Which Project at FGI Has Been Most Rewarding for You and Why?

The most rewarding project has been working on financial modeling. I enjoy diving deep into a company’s financials, identifying anomalies, and spotting trends that raise important questions. It feels like solving a puzzle, especially when I later hear the answers confirmed during management calls with the client. It is a great feeling to know my analysis helped guide the conversation and validate our understanding of the business. The process has sharpened my attention to detail and taught me how to connect financial data with real-world operations.

As Your Internship Ends, What Lessons and Experiences from FGI Will Stay with You?

My time at FGI taught me far more than just how to underwrite a company. Each client came from a different industry, and digging into how their businesses operated from supply chains to financial drivers was eye-opening. It made me realize how complex and interconnected the business world is. I will carry with me not just the technical skills, but a deeper appreciation for how companies across industries work behind the scenes. This experience broadened my perspective and confirmed my passion for understanding businesses at their core.
